                                Tenured Staff Scientist Position

in Single Particle Electron Microscopy and Image Processing

The research activities of the 14 groups presently working at the BZH focus on the molecular mechanisms of intracellular organization and transport with a strong emphasis on structural and functional analyses of large macromolecular complexes. The BZH has an excellent infrastructure with central facilities, e.g. protein and lipid analysis, including mass spectrometry, structural biology, a HTP-crystallization platform, high performance microscopy and centralized administrative services. We aim to establish single particle electron microscopy to strengthen our infrastructure, and support the BZH groups in their future research with this important method in structural biology.

The successful candidate will cooperate with the existing research groups at the BZH by supplying know-how and expertise in single particle EM and image processing. The candidate should work independently and will run the electron microscopy facility as a service for BZH researchers. Candidates skilled and trained in high resolution electron microscopy (e.g. negative stain EM, cryo-EM and image processing) are encouraged to apply. The applicant should be a team player that enjoys working in a collaborative environment.

The University of Heidelberg has a policy of raising the proportion of women in academic positions and therefore specifically invites the application of women with the necessary qualifications. Under German law disabled applicants with full qualifications are to be preferred.

Please send a CV, statement of research accomplishments and interests with respect to electron microscopy, and references to the Director of the BZH, Prof. Dr. Michael Brunner, Im Neuenheimer Feld 328, D-69120 Heidelberg, Germany (e-mail: direktor@bzh.uni-heidelberg.de) by August 1st, 2010.
