How to become a PhD student at the BZH

General Information

If you are aspiring to be part of the Heidelberg University Biochemistry Center (BZH) as a PhD student, please follow these three steps:

1. Contact directly the head of the research group of your choice. Ask about existing job opportunities or discuss how you could bring in your own funding.
2. Once this is sorted out, you need to follow the instructions for an online application to HBIGS (Heidelberg Biosciences International Graduate School) and enroll at the Faculty of Biosciences (https://www.bio.uni-heidelberg.de/en). 
3. If you are a student of medicine or dentistry, please enroll in the structured graduation program of the medical faculty (https://www.medizinische-fakultaet-hd.uni-heidelberg.de/forschung/forschungsfoerderung/interne-foerderung/mdphd-programm/faqs), first follow their instructions. 

 
Please always go through the official websites of the faculties (Biology or Medicine) and HBIGS to ensure a successful application within the specified deadlines.
